Cinderella
Once
upon a time there lived a girl called Cinderella . She had two ugly
stepsisters, who were lazy and greedy and very bad-tempered. They made
Cinderella work all day long.
One day
a big envelope was delivered to the door. It was invitation to the Prince's
ball, addressed to all three sisters.
The ugly
sisters shrieked with joy and began to plan what to wear."But what can
i wear?" ask Cinderella
quietly.
"You?
You won't be going," they
shorted. "The Prince won't want to meet anyone like you."
The big
day came at last. "Hurry
up!" the ugly sisters
shouted, as Cinderella struggled to pull their corsest tight.
"I
wish i could go to the ball,"sighed
Cinderella out loud.
Suddenly
an old lady appeared. It was her fairy Godmother. Cinderella blinked.”Then why don’t you go ?” her Fary
Godmother asked. ”But I’ve nothing to wear,” said Cinderella.
“We’ll see about that! Fetch me six lizards and a pumpkin from
the garden, six mice from the cage, and a large rat.”
With a wave of her wand the pumpkin became a coach, the rat the
coachman, the mice horses, and the lizards footmen. The Cinderella’s rags
became a glittering ball dress, and her worn old shoes sparkling glass
slippers. Her Fairy Godmother smiled.
“Just one
thing…you must be back before the stroke
of midnight!”
When
Cinderella entered the ballroom everyone turned to look at the unknown beauty. “Who can she be?” whispered the ugly
sisters crossly.
The
prince was enchanted by Cinderella and danced with no one else all evening.
Suddenly the clock began to chime. It was midnight! Without a word Cinderella
slipped from the Prince’s arms and fled from the room.
The
Prince tried to run after her, but he was too late.
As he
reached the stone steps into the garden he saw something glittering in the
moonlight. He bent down to pick it up.
It was
Cinderella’s glass slipper!
No one
had any idea who the mystery guest was or where she came from. The Prince was
dispair. He had lost the girl of his dreams. His only clue was the glass
slipper. He decided to ask every girl in the kingdom to try it on.
The ugly
sisters both tried to squeeze their lumpy feet into the glass slipper, but to
no avail. In desperation the Prince asked, “Doesn’t
someone called Cinderella live here?’
“Yes, but she certainly didn’t go to the ball!” said one of ugly sisters.”Please
fetch her now!” insisted the Prince.
The
Prince couldn’t take eyes off Cinderella as she slid her foot into the dazzling
shoe. It fitted like a glove.
The ugly
sisters nearly fainted.
It was
hard to know who was happiest, the Prince or Cinderella soon, another party
invitation was sent out, this time for their wedding.
The
guest of honour was Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother.
She made
quiet sure that they lived happily ever after.
The ugly
sisters were allowed to come to the wedding, but they had to do all the
wasing-up, just to teach them never to be so unkind again.
The End
